French Press Coffee Preparation

Brewing Coffee with a French Press

Brewing with a French press is one of the immersion brewing methods, where the coffee extracts while suspended in water. The rather coarse metal filter allows more oils and sediments to remain in the coffee compared to brewing with paper filters. This results in a coffee with a strong body.

Instructions for coffee with the French Press

1. Start by bringing the water to a boil. For optimal extraction, the French press should be preheated with hot water.

2. Meanwhile, weigh out the coffee and grind it in the grinder of your choice.

Tip: Note that the water temperature decreases by 3°C - 4°C just by pouring.

5. First, stir gently to dissolve any clumps and prevent coffee grounds from sticking to the sides.

6. Then, place the lid on and press the plunger down just enough so that the coffee grounds are completely submerged below the water surface. This ensures an even extraction of all coffee particles.

7. Now the coffee extracts. The optimal brewing time varies depending on the coffee and grind size. We recommend pressing the plunger all the way down after approximately 4 minutes.

8. If you're not going to pour out all the coffee immediately, transfer the remaining coffee to another container. Otherwise, the remaining coffee in the French press will over-extract and taste bitter.
