French Press Coffee Preparation

Making coffee with a French press

French press brewing is an immersion brewing method. The coffee extracts while floating in the water. The coarser-mesh metal filter retains more oils and sediment in the coffee than with paper filters. This gives the coffee a richer body.

Consider these parameters for the French Press

Amount of coffee
60 g
Grinding degree
Medium-coarse
Amount of water

Instructions for making coffee with a French press

1. Begin by bringing the water to a boil. For optimal extraction, the French press should be preheated with hot water.
2. Meanwhile, weigh the coffee and grind it in the grinder of your choice.

Tip: Note that the water temperature decreases by 3°C - 4°C just by watering.
5. Stir gently first to break up any lumps and prevent any coffee powder from sticking to the edges.

6. Then, replace the lid and press the plunger down until the coffee grounds float completely below the water surface. This ensures even extraction of all coffee particles.

7. Now the coffee is brewing. The optimal brewing time varies depending on the coffee and the grind size. We recommend pushing the plunger all the way down after about 4 minutes .

8. If you don't pour all the coffee right away, transfer the leftover coffee to another container. Otherwise, the remaining coffee will overextract in the French press and taste bitter.
