Süssmund Kaffee - Your coffee roastery in Vienna

Highest quality coffee, ethically traded and freshly roasted

Highest quality coffee, ethically traded and freshly roasted

Viennese coffee house culture has a long tradition. The coffee house is a place of encounter and was designed for lingering. Today, the focus is often on the numerous coffee specialties and pastries, rather than on the quality and origin of the coffee beans themselves.

As a small coffee roaster based in Vienna, we want to refocus attention on the basic product and thus contribute to a more conscious coffee culture, even outside of Vienna. That's why we only roast high-quality green coffee that is both delicious and ethically sourced. On trips to the coffee-growing countries, we visit the coffee farms from which we source our green coffee. Through this personal interaction, we gain insight into local production and working conditions and get to know our partners better.

This creates long-term relationships that benefit both the coffee farmers and Süssmund Kaffee. By selling the coffee beans as directly as possible, a greater share of the added value remains with the producers and their helpers in the country of origin. This allows us to specifically support socially and ecologically responsible projects and promote sustainable coffee cultivation. Furthermore, through personal interaction, we can influence the way the green coffee is processed and secure the best lots directly from the producers.

Sweet-mouth coffee for every taste

We consider coffee a luxury item, which is why we treat our coffee beans with the utmost care. In our coffee roastery, only the freshest harvest is stored at optimal temperature and humidity. Since coffee roasting is our passion, we roast each batch ourselves at least once a week. Shortly thereafter, we ship the coffee to cafés, restaurants, coffee retailers, and private customers. This ensures absolute freshness.

Coffee is as diverse as life itself, but tastes differ. Some prefer fruity coffees with complex acidity, while others prefer the chocolatey notes of dark roasted coffees. With our coffee roasts, we want to appeal to every coffee drinker and not patronize anyone. Therefore, we have divided our espresso and filter coffee varieties into three flavor categories: Fruity & Complex, Balanced & Sweet, and Dark & Full.

With a coffee sampler package, you'll get a particularly comprehensive impression of the various facets of our coffees. This lets you experience the true variety of flavors of coffee and its roasting. See for yourself what our selection has to offer; there's something for every coffee drinker.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can you drink Süssmund coffee?

You can sample all of our varieties at the Süssmund Coffee Shop at Rauhensteingasse 12, 1010 Vienna. Visit us for a delicious cup of coffee and take your favorite beans home with you.

What makes the Süssmund coffee roastery stand out?

At our coffee roastery on the outskirts of Vienna, we work with a handmade drum roaster from Greece. This slow roasting process produces more complex aromas than the fast, industrial roasting process at high temperatures. To ensure that the delicate aromas of the coffee's origin and processing are not lost, we develop a unique roasting profile for each coffee. With 800 possible aromas, coffee has more than wine, and we want to bring these aromas to life.

What does specialty coffee mean?

Central to Specialty Coffee are exceptionally high-quality green coffee, fair payment to coffee farmers, and precise coffee roasting. These cornerstones form the foundation of our corporate philosophy and thus our business model.

Specialty coffee is the result of the interplay of an ideal microclimate, unique soil composition, and the utmost care in processing the coffee cherries after harvest. According to the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), coffee must score more than 80 on a 100-point scale to be classified as specialty coffee. Combined with the right roasting, these coffee beans create a unique taste experience.

Who is behind Süssmund Kaffee?

Süssmund Kaffee was founded in 2014 by Nikolaus Hartmann after realizing that his vision of roasting coffee gently, according to its location and processing, was well received. He decided to give up his career as an architect and devote himself entirely to coffee. Norbert Rieberer, originally from the financial sector, has been part of Süssmund since 2018. The two are united by their passion for exceptional coffee and their shared understanding of ethical business practices and sustainable production.
