Fully automatic coffee machine
Setting up a fully automatic coffee machine correctly
Fully automatic coffee machines are available in numerous versions, with enormous differences in quality. Many households and offices opt for fully automatic machines due to their ease of use and uncomplicated preparation.
However, fully automatic coffee machines only produce satisfying results when properly adjusted. If you follow these basic parameters, you'll be able to make great espresso with your fully automatic coffee machine!
The right parameters for fully automatic coffee machines
Intensity/Strength | Maximum |
Grinding degree | As fine as possible |
Amount of water | 25-30 ml |
Water temperature | High |
Setting up fully automatic coffee machines quickly explained
1. Program the amount of water for a single espresso with 25-30ml and for a double espresso with 50-60ml.
Tip: If you like a large cup of coffee, a long shot, you shouldn't simply program it into your fully automatic coffee machine. If the brewing process takes too long, unwanted bitterness will be released from the coffee beans, and the coffee will be much too hot. Therefore, if you like long shots, always use an espresso as a base and then top it with hot water.
2. Set the water temperature as high as possible; 92°C is optimal.
3. If you can adjust the coffee quantity gravimetrically, choose 8-10g for a single espresso. If you can only adjust the "intensity" or "strength," choose the maximum.
4. Choose the finest grind possible, so the brewing time is at least 15-20 seconds. It may drip briefly at first, but afterward, the coffee should flow out in a thin, even stream.
5. Adjust the grinding level in small steps during the grinding process, otherwise the grinder may get stuck.
Tip: For optimal extraction in a fully automatic coffee machine, the finer the better, as the throughput time in fully automatic coffee machines is often too short for a perfect extraction. However, if the grind is too fine, the pump will suffer if the resistance is too high. Therefore, ensure a thin, even stream is produced.
